Frequently Asked Questions
Nitrogen is a gas that makes up 78% of our air! Nitrogen’s boiling point is -320º F, so liquid nitrogen is VERY cold. And that's what makes all that cool smoke.
•IS LIQUID NITROGEN SAFE?
Yes, with proper handling.
•DOES SNOWSHACK NITROGEN ICE CREAM HANDLE LIQUID NITROGEN PROPERLY?
YES! All of our employees are trained in correct handling of these materials and our work stations have been designed to ensure the safety of both customers and emplyees alike
•IS LIQUID NITROGEN SAFE TO EAT?
NO! Never ingest liquid Nitrogen. Food Prepared with Nitrogen is only freezing due to the CONTACT with the freezing liquid, not because it is, in any way, being INFUSED with Nitrogen. (Thing of it as when you pour something hot onto something cold to cool it off)
•AM I EATING LIQUID NITROGEN WHEN I EAT SUB ZERO ICE CREAM?
NO! All liquid Nitrogen used to freeze ice cream at Sub Zero has evaporated by the time it is presented to the customer for eating.
•IS LIQUID NITROGEN USED IN OTHER COMMON PRODUCTS WE EAT?
Yes! Liquid Nitrogen is commonly used to flash freeze products found in the frozen aisles of grocery stores (e.g., meat, seafood, pastries, fruit, frozen meals, etc.).
•WHAT ABOUT WINTER'S BREATH/SNOWBALLS?
The food and equipment used, and the training required for producing Winter's Breath/Snowballs (aka “dragon’s breath”) ensure that no residual liquid nitrogen remains when it is served. The reason it causes you to breath out fog is that the products we use are so cold that the water vapor you exhale condenses into tiny droplets. It’s no different from when you see your breath on a cold day.
•CAN WINTER'S BREATH/SNOWBALLS CAUSE ASTHMA ATTACKS?
Very unlikely. Nitrogen and water are non- toxic. Due to the very cold temperature, Winter's Breath and Snowballs may not be suitable for young children, or those whose asthma is triggered by inhaling very cold air or any sudden temperature change.
•IS NITROGEN ICE CREAM SAFE ACROSS ALL BRANDS?
We can’t vouch for other brands that make nitrogen ice cream and variations of dragon’s breath, but the Snowshack follows the safety protocols that ensure that everyone is safe, and that the products we serve are of the highest quality and as much fun as we can make them, ensuring that you'll be back time and time again.
